The One with Thanksgiving Traditions

I have been realizing lately that I have a few personal traditions that surround this wonderful holiday of Thanksgiving. These are of course exclusive to the obvious ones, such as consuming a ridiculous amount of Turkey and pumpkin pie.

1) I run a lot. The past three years I have run the Seattle half marathon right after Thanksgiving. So right before it I am training a ton! This year I am not running since I did a race a couple of weeks ago. But I am still trying to keep up my mileage.

2) I start to think about things that I'm thankful for. This time of year is great for that. In the past I've usually made lists and scrapbook pages and blog posts. Here is a post from 2009 that I particularly like.

3) I drink lots of Thanksgiving blend coffee!

4) I play more games than usual. This started in 2009 with poker and every year around this time I get excited about playing games. When I was a kid, we used to play scrabble after Thanksgiving dinner.

5) I love watching Thanksgiving Friends episodes.

6) I make place tags for the table. This is one of my favorite Thanksgiving traditions. Here is a blog post from 2011 where you can see those place tags.

This year we are heading over to the East side for Thanksgiving! I am excited that I don't have to cook this year. I just get to eat!

The one with the Odd Photo Challenge

I took a random photo this week as I was preparing to take enough photos to fill Project Life. Sometimes my SLR just sits around all week, and this week I didn't get it out until Friday! I snapped a few photos of the cats and then this random photo of my messy dresser.

Then I realized that even though my dresser looks messy and awful, the photo really says a lot about me. I "labeled" the photo with text that describes what's in the photo. Fun!

(If you click on the photo it will get much larger and easier to read)

The challenge is to take a super random photo in your bedroom (before its clean!) and then label it with text. See how much that little photo can say about yourself!!

Or maybe I'm the only one with a messy dresser. I guess a clean dresser can say a lot too. :)

The one with the Roof

Matty and I have a new found love for the roof. Our neighbors have recently painted and remodeled it and the latest edition this week was NEW CHAIRS!! Yay!!

Needless to say, we are in love. The weather is finally warm enough so that its comfortable to hang out in the evenings. Give me a glass of red wine and a good book, and I'd be up there for hours. Speaking of that. This book is awesome. Hannah gave it to me as a gift last weekend and I'm about half way through. I will plan to finish it up this weekend on our camping trip. Yay!!

Life is speeding by. I have photos to share of the Forth of July, which was fabulous this year. I also have a couple food photos/recipes to share. But this weekend I will be relaxing at a campsite off of Highway 2...so no internet service around. More coming next week!!

One quick note...I plan to try a new recipe from my Paleo Cookbook each week. So I will be reporting on that.

Also another quick note...I actually got in the lake last night!!! (See instagram feed if you don't believe me.) Swimming is going pretty well, I just wish I had longer to train. I guess sometimes procrastination/cramming doesn't really work.

Have a great weekend!!!

Girly day

Today was all about me.

I made baked oatmeal for breakfast. Then I ate half of it cold when I got home tonight. (Its amazing cold!) Here is the recipe, except I used half the sugar and almonds instead of walnuts and almond milk instead of real milk.

I painted my nails after watching Kristina Werner's awesome YouTube videos. She even has a nail blog! I am inspired to buy so many fun products. :) You can find the blog here

I put make up on today.

I bought myself a latte and was delighted with the foam art.

I visited my dear bro and sis in east lake and delighted in their home cooking. I love the view of Lake Union from their place!

I got poked today, for (hopefully) the last time for awhile. I appreciated the delightfully yellow band-aid which went so well with my neon polish. I received the awesome news that I am hCG free at last!!!

It was a good day. I miss hubby, but it was still a good day.

My favorite things!

Its been awhile since I posted about this! I guess I just have a few things that I have recently loved this fall.

1. Saturday Farmer's Market.

Last weekend Hannah and I walked to the University Farmer's Market. Its about a 40 minute walk from her house and there was a perfect Seattle mist. I bought some yummy fruit, amazing flowers and a delicious scone. Now I can't wait to go back to another Farmer's Market! I only wish it was a little more affordable.

2. Tall Pumpkin Spice Latte with half the syrup.

Not to big...but keep the fat! I can't imagine drinking this yummy fall beverage with the full amount of sugar. It is SO SWEET with the 1.5 pumps of pumpkin Spice.

3. Amy Tangerine Chevron Paper
I love love love this paper! I have used it on 3 pages so far and I still have more left! The only problem is, I love it on both sides!

4. Fred Meyer.

Yes, this is silly. But I love this place! I've been shopping here for more than a month and still my FAVORITE products are always on sale and affordable! They have yogurt, almond milk, bulk foods, lara bars, and TONS more! I totally love this store.

5. Nancy's Honey Yogurt.

This is related to #4...I get 2 of these for $5 at Fred Meyer. Its 170 for one cup and completely delicious! I eat it every morning with raw oatmeal and slivered almonds. This week I am going to work on adding some fruit. (My trainer says eat things with bright colors!)

Fall Loves

Even though it is only the second day of Fall, I am already excited! I wrote a list of all the things I am looking forward to this season:

1) Long runs...getting ready for the Seattle half marathon

2) Crispy leaves

3) Wearing my newish boots (got last year)

4) Hot lattes with lots of foam (I might even break out my personal latte maker at home!)

5) Drinking tea every night (already doing this...I love my Hamilton water boiler!)

6) New episodes of Castle

7) Scrapbooking all my summer photos

8) Pretty colors everywhere. I want to drive Chuckanut Drive, which is up North...apparently beautiful in the Fall.

9) Football! I get to go to Apple Cup this year at the Seahawk Stadium!

10) Getting thin and healthy. I am newly inspired by my personal trainer. :)

Bring it on cold weather! You cannot beat me!

Proud to be a Northwest Girl

Watch out! This post is not meant to offend! I am mostly just responding my my sister's blog post about how she feels she is getting more European. There are a few stereotypes that Europeans have about Americans...we are fat, sloppy, wasteful etc.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, I feel that I am none of these things!

1. I exercise daily.

2. I have minimalist shoes. This is definitely a trend that is catching on in Seattle!

3. I have a techy cell phone.

4. I love camping and hiking and generally being outside.

5. I recycle anything I can. I don't believe in Styrofoam.

6. I drink coffee beverages like a fish.

7. I bike to work. (And I just started mountain biking)

8. I generally eat healthy food. I don't eat fried food (at least most of the time!)

9. I probably wont have kids until I'm a little older. (This is probably a city girl thing v. a Northwest thing)

10. I am a foodie. I love going out to eat and trying new foods, especially ethnic foods that I have never tried.

11. I am a gear head.

There are many more reasons I am so proud and happy to be a Northwest girl! I will have to come up with a few more and share them later. Happy Weekend!

My favorite things...

Since I don't have my awesome weekend photos uploaded onto my computer yet, I thought I would update my blog with my new favorite things!

Almond milk...I love this stuff! Its delicious and only 40 calories per cup, which is half of regular milk! It doesn't have a lot of protein but I usually get my protein from other sources.
My favorite shoes! They are the barefoot shoes by Merrell and I LOVE them. I use them for all my runs except my longest runs. I have to break them in, but so far I have run four miles in these guys. They are awesome!
Tall Starbucks Americano...only costs $2.15! I have the barista add steamed soy on top and it always tastes delicious! Someone at the Green Lake Starbucks told me this tip and I am so grateful. No more lattes for me!

Studio Calico is a kit that I have gotten recently that I really love. This month I will be getting October Afternoon 5&Dime papers, which is another favorite and I cannot wait!
Sorry for such a silly post! I will be back soon with some real content, especially photos and Bloomsday update!

By the way, my time was 1:05 for the Bloomsday 12k. Not so bad!

I love my coffee

This morning I was delighted to receive some delicious steamed soy on top of my americano. Thank you barista from Starbucks! It was delicious!

So that got me thinking about how much I love coffee and that I should do a blog post about my favorite little drink.

Mostly at home I drink drip coffee, no cream or sugar. Matty usually makes it for me! (Lovely guy!)

At Starbucks I generally get a tall Americano. Usually I put a little cream in there but lately I've been staying away from the cream. That's why I got soy today.

When I visit random coffee shops I almost always order a 16 oz latte. When I feel like being healthy I make the latte non fat.

I love latte art. I also love donuts. This picture was taken at Top Pot the afternoon after my half marathon. Fortunately I haven't really indulged in crazy unhealthy sweets since then!

I love sitting in a coffee shop. Sometimes I think its worth the ridiculous $7 for a latte and sweet treat, just so I can chill out for a couple hours and read or spend time with friends.
Coffee: I will never leave you. I may go crazy every couple of years and try to "quit" you, but I will always be back.

I am a coffee drinker for life. :)

I'm having a rough day...

...I hate eating low carb. However, this is apparently the only way to lose weight. This book on kindle told me so...

After all, I have tried everything. I work out 1-2 hours 6 days per week. I keep a close track of my calories, at least on the week days. And NOTHING. So I am giving it a try. Have I mentioned that I hate it? Maybe its good for someone like Matt that just LOVES meat and nuts and fat. But that's not me, so this will be rough!

So I decided I need to be positive and write about the things that are making me happy right now.

1) I can run and run and run. So far no injuries!
2) I have dabbled in a little re-watching of Smallville. Just the first season. Nothing too scary yet. (Thank you Joy)
3) Matty bought me a bright purple kindle cover
4) October Afternoon paper always makes me happy. I love and WANT this paper. Renae showed it to me last weekend and I have been coveting it. What could be cuter than that little fox curled up in a sleeping bag?
5) My new gym continues to make me happy. The people are great and I love the classes and the treadmills and the foam rolls.6) Greek yogurt is amazing to someone on a lo carb diet! Matty says its not lo carb enough but I am not convinced! I have to eat something I like, right?7. My lululemon shopping bags. I have gotten so much use out of them and they are FREE! Well, free with purchase of a very expensive item of clothing.
So that's all for tonight. I feel better already, having done a Google image search of all my current favorite things. :)

New Obsessions!

I guess I am easily obsessed. This is the third post on obsessions that I've done in just a few short months. When I like something, I REALLY like it.

I've been watching Lois & Clark on Netflix! Its a super campy show, but as I am a secret fan of anything Superman, its a new favorite of mine! And I love all the little reminders of life in the nineties! I especially like those shoulder pads that Lois wears...ha ha.

My converse shoes! Yes, I love them.

Red fingernail polish! It does a wonder of good in the fall! Makes me so happy to glance down at brightly colored red nails.

Kefir! Yes, the sour drinkable yogurt. I think its delicious and it supposedly even helps weight loss...I think. Not sure that I have heard this from a reputable source, but oh well!
Tonight I am enjoying a relaxing Tuesday. I did some intervals at the gym, and now I am eating chicken noodle soup and watching Superman. So much fun! I just wish Matt were home to enjoy the evening with me. He wont get home until 9:30! Sad!

Five obsessions of October...

This is a long time obsession. I love macademia nut luna bars. They go great with black coffee. And if they weren't 190 calories I would eat them all day long.

I have been listening to Pandora non stop. I guess this obsession is a bit of a revisiting of an obsession that I had about a year and a half ago. Thanks Renae for the reminder.

I have had this distress stickles for close to a couple years. Lately I have been using it lots and lots! I've been adding it to edges of photos on my pages for a nice distressed look.

This tiger tail is my friend. I am actively trying to avoid injury this season, and not being very successful! So he helps me massage out all my super sore and tight muscles. (That is not my leg. All these photos are GIS images)
I got this mineral powder last year on my birthday (20% off your birthday month!) and this fall I have been using it like crazy. I go through periods of time when I don't wear much makeup. Usually in the fall I wear more make up because I am increasingly WHITE with the decreasing amount of sunlight. I just love this precious diamond shimmer dust...its just the perfect amount of glitter. (And I do love my glitter!)
